As reported by U.S. News & World Report, the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA) recently ranked Universal Health Care as the 5th highest quality Medicare HMO in the State of Florida in its annual quality survey. Twenty-two plans were listed in the 2008 Florida survey. This ranking reflects the results of consumer surveys, and success in preventing and treating illness, compared with an average plan broken down into 28 individual measures. Nationally, Universal ranked #73 among 150 Medicare healthcare plans ranked within the United States.
NCQA is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to improve health care quality. The organization measures and reports on various aspects of performance and offers a range of accreditation and certification programs for different entities and individual physicians. In 2007, NCQA awarded Universal its “commendable accreditation” ranking through December 2010.
Universal Health Care was founded in 2003 by Chairman and CEO Dr. Akshay Desai, a geriatric specialist who believes in service-perfection. Universal Health Care’s primary focus is to provide the best attention and care to its senior members. Commented Dr. Desai, “We are extraordinarily proud that our members have spoken so positively about Universal in the prestigious NCQA annual quality survey. Their independent testimony evidences that our commitment to quality healthcare is succeeding. We are proud to serve the needs of our senior members.”
